During the system maintenance you will not be able to place new requests or retrieve existing requests.  We apologize for any inconvenience. Open Access Week

October 21-27, 2019!

Theme

The 2019 Open Access Week Advisory Committee is pleased to announce that the theme for the 2019 International Open Access Week, to be held October 21-27, will be “Open for Whom? Equity in Open Knowledge”. As the transition to a system for sharing knowledge that is open by default accelerates, the question “open for whom?” is essential—both to consider and to act upon. Whose interests are being prioritized in the actions we take and in the platforms that we support? Whose voices are excluded? Are underrepresented groups included as full partners from the beginning? Are we supporting not only open access but also equitable participation in research communication? These questions will determine the extent to which emerging open systems for research will address inequities in the current system or replicate and reinforce them. This year’s theme will build on the groundwork laid last year when discussions focused on “Designing Equitable Foundations for Open Knowledge.” The 2018 theme highlighted the importance of making a central commitment to equity as we transition toward new systems for sharing knowledge, and the past twelve months have only seen the pace of that transition increase. Because of this, the Open Access Week Advisory Committee decided it was important to focus on equity again in 2019—to deepen our conversations about being inclusive by design and to turn those conversations into action.

How Does Dykes Library Support OA?

KU's One University Open Access (OA) Author Fund is designed to heighten the visibility and accessibility of the University's scholarship. Request OA Funding Here View KU and KUMC OA Awarded Authors List Additionally, publication consultations through the Research and Learning Department and through the One University OA Fund team are available for researchers to identify high-quality open access journals to publish within and to navigate questions of copyright and authors' rights.

Catalog Maintenance

Update: The catalog maintenance was completed at 8:30am on Saturday 10/5/2019.



The Library Catalog will be undergoing maintenance beginning Friday October 4th through Sunday October 6th. During this time, electronic books and journals may not show up in the journal and book search results.

Access to our eBooks will be available for the duration by going directly to either AccessMedicine or ClinicalKey depending on where the book is published. This maintenance will not affect the E-journal Finder, Database List, Request Materials (ILLiad), or our Find It! button.

Once the work is complete, all of our electronic resources will appear in the catalog again.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Find It! Service Outage

The Dykes Library Find It! service and the E-Journal Finder will not be available starting Friday, February 8, 2019 from 7pm for up to 24 hours while our vendor performs system maintenance.

Databases such as ClinicalKey, Access Medicine, and UpToDate will be unaffected. Similarly, you will be able to access full text links in other databases such as CINAHL or GoogleScholar if the content is linked to directly. To access these databases you may browse our Databases List.

If you need to locate articles that depend on these services you may attempt the following workarounds. Be aware that these may not work in all situations.

• In PubMed, you may use the full text links provided by the publisher or the DOI link. For example: 



• Search for the article within GoogleScholar or any of our other databases in case they link directly to the full text content.

ClinicalKey article linking unavailable

Find It! links to ClinicalKey articles are currently returning a "resource not found" error shown below. We have notified our vendor and they are working on an update that will resolve this issue.

 

Workaround for ClinicalKey article access

ClinicalKey articles are still accessible from the Find It! page by first clicking the information icon¹ and then clicking the link to Browse Journal² as shown below.
